Sadio Mane considers his competition with Mohamed Salah, his former teammate at Liverpool.

Sadio Mane has openly reflected on his rivalry and working relationship with former Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah. Mane described Salah as a "nice guy" and dismissed the idea of their rivalry being negative, explaining it was more a matter of professional competitiveness rather than personal animosity.

He recalled a notable incident in 2019 during a match against Burnley when Mane was visibly angry with Salah for not passing him the ball when he was in a better position to score. The two had a brief clash after the game but soon reconciled when Salah approached Mane to explain that his decision was not driven by any ill feelings but a shooting opportunity.

Mane expressed understanding of Salah's mindset, emphasizing their mutual desire to be top scorers and how he was ready to support Salah’s ambition. Despite some tension on the field, Mane stressed that they maintained friendly relations off it.

The duo’s partnership was highly effective on the pitch, with Mane and Salah playing 223 times together for Liverpool and contributing 35 combined goals. The rivalry was professional and fueled by passion rather than personal conflict, and both players respected each other’s contributions to Liverpool’s success during their time together.
