Madrid Court Rules in Favor of Real Madrid, Paving Way for Compensation Claim Against UEFA

Real Madrid have claimed a major legal victory in their dispute with UEFA, the Spanish FA, and La Liga regarding the failed European Super League project. On October 29, 2025, the Provincial Court of Madrid dismissed appeals from UEFA, RFEF, and La Liga, confirming an earlier ruling that UEFA had violated European Union competition laws by blocking the Super League and abusing its dominant position. This decision follows the European Court of Justice verdict in 2023, which found UEFA's rules banning the Super League to be contrary to EU law.

Real Madrid have announced that this ruling now allows them to seek substantial financial damages for losses incurred due to UEFA's actions. The club stated it had held numerous discussions with UEFA throughout 2025 but failed to achieve agreement on governance reforms, financial sustainability, or fan engagement. Real Madrid confirmed their intention to continue advocating for reform in European football and to pursue compensation as allowed by the Madrid court's judgment.

UEFA, in response, emphasized that the court's ruling does not validate the abandoned Super League project or undermine UEFA’s current authorisation rules, which have since been updated. This verdict marks a significant moment in the ongoing battle over the future structure and governance of European club football.
